Powers/Talents: The Persona called Rokuten Maoh, a manifestation of Kanji's strength to face himself that he can call forth in battle. It excels in brute physical strength and electricity skills. Kanji also has the ability to pass through TV screens into another world, even though he would be unable to exit on his own. Oh, and his tailoring skills are... very elaborate.
Kanji Tatsumi is a student at Yasogami High, located in the sleepy town of Inaba. It is in this same town that his mother runs Tatsumi Textiles, the family textile shop. Thanks to this home environment, Kanji developed a taste for sewing, crafts and tailoring.
However, there was a period of time when he longed to hide this fact to avoid ridicule. He became rebellious and picked fights with gang members on a regular basis, spending his time out on the streets rather than going to school. He made it a habit to use somewhat foul language, and harbored hidden feelings of hatred towards girls for thinking his tailoring hobbies to be creepy and laughable. There were times he even became insecure about his own identity due to these festering emotions.
When the other characters are able to free him from the grasp of his Shadow and he musters up the strength to face himself, he obtains his Persona and joins the investigation team as a valuable (if not often clueless) asset in solving the case. It is during this time that he begins turning a new leaf, showing himself to be more of a respectable man rather than the delinquent most of Inaba assumed him to be. While he may not always be paying full attention, he quickly ends up becoming the member of the team most capable of standing strong in dire times, his confidence and determination acting as much needed support for the others.
By opening up to the main character, he is able to come to terms with himself even more and decides that his hobbies might not be so shameful after all. Making dolls for a quiet young boy, helping the main character's little cousin with her arts and crafts, and making things to sell at the textile shop are among the adventures leading up to his new found self respect.
